Know your ECU
How to read hardware and software numbers from an ECU label
The hardware number, software number and manufacturer part number are the three keys to finding a compatible file. Here is where to find each one on Bosch, Delphi, Continental and Denso units.
Original vs. virgin vs. immo off: which file do you need?
Replacing an ECU, recovering from a bad flash or fixing a lost key each call for a different file. A quick decision guide.
KESS, K-TAG, FLEX or Autotuner: which tool reads what?
OBD, bench and boot modes explained, plus which master tools support the most common Bosch, Delphi and Continental ECUs.
Questions, answered
Still unsure whether a file fits? Send us your numbers and we'll confirm before you buy.
What exactly is an ECU file?
An ECU file is a binary read-out of an engine or transmission control unit's flash memory (and often its EEPROM). Our catalogue contains original factory reads plus solutions such as immo off, virgin, DPF/EGR/AdBlue off and Stage 1 tuning, each identified by hardware and software number.
How do I make sure a file matches my ECU?
Compare the hardware number (e.g. 0281017946), the software number (e.g. 1037541778) and, where shown, the manufacturer part number with the identification your tool reports. All three are listed on every product page. If anything differs, request the file instead — never write a mismatched file.
How fast will I receive my file?
Immediately. As soon as your payment is confirmed the file appears under My downloads, and it stays there permanently for re-download. Crypto payments unlock after the network confirmation, usually within a few minutes.
Which tools are the files compatible with?
Files are standard binary reads and work with all common master and slave tools — KESS V2/KESS3, K-TAG, Autotuner, FLEX, PCMFlash, New Trasdata, VVDI Prog, Xprog and others. Each listing shows the tool and method (OBD, bench or boot) it was read with.
Are modified files checksum-corrected?
Yes. Every modified file is delivered with checksums already corrected. Each listing also shows a SHA-256 fingerprint so you can confirm the download is byte-identical to what we published.
What if the file I need is not listed?
Use Request a file with your vehicle, ECU and numbers. Most requests are sourced the same business day; you'll get an email as soon as it's in your account.
